HU Simulation Center
The Mario Luzzatto Simulation Center, one of the largest and most technologically advanced centers in Europe, offers a unique 360° training experience. Benefiting from the co-location of University, Hospital and Research Center, the center offers state-of-the-art educational courses and hands-on workshops to students, residents and professionals.
The field and technology of medical simulation has advanced rapidly in the last years. This allows us to reproduce many clinical scenarios, as well as the dynamics of the interaction between healthcare professionals and/or between healthcare professionals and patients.
Within the 3,000 square meters dedicated to simulation and hands-on anatomy laboratories, participants around the globe can immerse themselves in technical and non-technical skill training as teamwork, leadership, communication, etc.
Innovative technology is used to conduct experimental teaching activities in Medicine and Surgery and to study Anatomy via a 3D virtual anatomy catalogue.
The Humanitas University Simulation Center offers virtual and augmented reality, 3-D learning, live surgery streaming, and simulation activities of different fidelity levels:
LOW FIDELITY SIMULATION: Task trainers to build specific skills, e.g. cannula or tube insertion, basic CPR skills
MEDIUM FIDELITY SIMULATION: Laparoscopic simulator boxes, Basic and Advanced Life Support courses, Suturing Skill Table, Airway and Emergency Simulator, etc.
HIGH FIDELITY SIMULATION: Most realistic experience like the anatomy lab to practice on human specimens, and computer-based mannequins and realistic environments to mimic operating rooms, emergency wards or interventional departments.
The HU Simulation Center offers:
- 3 high-fidelity and 2 medium-low-fidelity simulation rooms
- 4 multifunctional rooms for education and/or debriefing
- 3 control booths
- 1 physiotherapy lab
- 1 Anatomy Lab
HU Anatomy Lab
The Humanitas University Anatomy Lab is a space devoted to all professionals in the field of medicine and surgery. The state of the art Anatomy Lab stems from the need to improve surgical techniques, master new technologies and deepen anatomical knowledge.
Our facility authentically mirrors the hospital setting to provide a realistic environment for participants, hosting 8 workstations, all fully equipped with surgical power tools and equipment.
This opportunity, still rare in Italy, offers the best possible support for surgical training. It is fundamental to improve our doctors’ surgical maneuvers and their anatomical knowledge and this reality represents the safest way to train people to manage new technologies, techniques and medical devices.
Microscopes and a C-Arm for imaging are also available alongside a camera for live streaming to broadcast events from inside and outside the Laboratory. The fresh frozen human specimens, which come from the US Tissue Banks and are accompanied by a complete set of certificates concerning the clinical history of each donor and all relative blood tests.
A nursing team trained in real clinical settings is always onsite to support the surgical activities.
The HU CUBE
Newly opened in 2019, The Humanitas University CUBE is a 24/7 open space training facility, which provides healthcare professionals with an opportunity to train and improve their skills whenever their busy schedule allows.
The HU CUBE is equipped with the most advanced training equipment:
- Minimal invasive Lap and Arthroscopy Simulators (Virtual Reality)
- Suturing and cutting techniques tables
- Airway management and emergency procedures (CRP, single and double lumen intubation, bronchoscopy etc.)
- Learn ultrasound techniques, like ultrasound guided procedures as thoracentesis, paracentesis, CVC line and PICC line insertion, and much more
- Arterial puncture with colored fluids to realistically replicate the clinical scenario, spinal access trainer with different clinical situations (obesity, elderly, pregnant)
The modern, fully-equipped facility is also suitable for numerous other activities, including innovation and quality improvement labs, Med Tec testing, and Research & Development projects.
